Ciao 2015 - a year review

Saturday, 2 January 2016

Well as 2015 comes to an end, about the only resolution that I've managed to stick to is the one I make every year and that is to ‘travel more’. This year, travel wise has probably been one of the best with regards to travel having managed to explore a lot more of Italy and beyond.

January kicked off with a girls trip to the ever beautiful but freezing Florence

Along with some excellent Fiorentine food and wine

February was family time in Berlin

and lots of fun in Rome... supporting Italy in the 6 nations rugby at the Stadio Olimpico

A weekend trip to Perugia and Assisi

A visit to the Colosseum to see Papa Francesco at Easter

Playing tour guide to lots of lovely visitors to Rome

Enjoying the first sign of spring sun in Villa Borghese

The 1st of May, a long weekend, called for a trip to Bologna

With a day trip to Ferrara

And a pizza filled trip to my 'second city' Naples

May was a month of public holidays or 'ponte', which consequently meant lots of weekend trips, at the end of May the girls and I said 'hola' to Barcelona.

June brought with it the start of beach season, beach, beach and some more beach

In July I took a trip up north to Milan

which included a trip to Expo

with just enough time for a quick visit to the aperol bar

When Rome got too hot in the July heat... it was time to escape to Pescara, Abruzzo

Spaghettata - ice cream spaghetti

The first of August, the official start of summer, meant only one thing - my annual island escape to Ischia

This year I took a boat out to the neighbouring island of Procida

And back to Ischia to celebrate Ferragosto

Straight after relaxation time in Ischia, I headed across the pond to New York

and Chicago

and Miami

Catching some rays on South Beach Miami

Spot the croc
Exploring the everglades
Miami Skyline
then on to the last stop...New Orleans

Trying my first 'Hurricane on Bourbon Street'

Back in Italy, it wasn't long before I was off exploring again...this time it was a weekend in Terni, Umbria

visiting Arrone

and Cascate delle Marmore - the biggest waterfalls in Europe

eating and drinking my way through the region

It was then back to the motherland with a trip to London in October

Walking around Greenwich Mean Time area

and a brief visit back to Newcastle - Leazes Park

Back in Italy again it was time to get my chocolate fix at the annual Eurochocolate festival in Perugia

At the end of October, a good friend of mine got married in a lovely ceremony in Sorrento

Celebrating the third birthday I have had in Rome

Back to London...getting into the christmas vibe

View from Sushi Samba London

And of course lots and lots of exploring my home...Rome

 The beautiful Colosseum sunset
 Monti neighbourhood
 Strolling past Circo Massimo
Many an aperol spritz was had
 the view from Villa Borghese
 The Rose Gardens
 Posing in the colosseum

 Drinks on the terrace

 The Tevere river

Villa Pamphilli

Arriverderci 2015 you've been amazing!

Ciao 2016, many more adventures to come

Ciao for now

Zoe
